This lively Wicker Park venue has a menu influenced by bold Mexican flavours and a drinks list that reflects this. Takito Kitchen serves a nice line in Margaritas and Latin-inspired specialty cocktails. Their cucumber-laced Margarita is a gloriously refreshing and summery drink and they also serve a spot-on Paloma. The Rhumba, a mix of lime, coconut, pink guava and, of course, rum is also a good bet. They serve a range of mezcals by the glass and boast an incredibly extensive list of tequilas. True, the wine list is fairly limited, just four reds and three whites, but we can live with that. In terms of food, these guys specialise in modern tacos stuffed with super-tasty fillings like smoky barbecue beef or tender pork belly. Their crispy red fish taco with carrot jalapeño slaw is full of crunch and zing. They also serve a range of small plates including ceviche and a rich, warming carne aside intriguingly topped with green onion kimchee – and an array of fresh salsas including a tomato hibiscus, spiked with the dangerously fiery ghost pepper. The space is stylishly decked out with the all too familiar bare brickwork punctuated with a few bold splashes of colour and a scattering of ceramic animal heads. We particularly like the collection of vintage radios that are dotted about the place.
