Expat is a pop-up alfresco
lounge from the guys behind Nellcote and RM Champagne Salon. Located over the
road from Soho House Chicago, Element Collective’s seasonal sidewalk-only café
is a cool, casual spot where you can indulge in light, bright dishes, like oysters,
shrimp cocktail, creamy burrata, crab salad, and smoked bluefish dip. They will
also serve rose wine – that ideal summer tipple – and a lot of it, in various
forms, by the glass but also in snow cone form.
Limoncello snow cones are also on the menu and if you fancy something
stronger, they also do “shot pairings” – think tequila chased with sangrita or
whiskey with a measure of house pickle brine, as well as classic cocktails like
the Hemingway Daiquiri, a potent mix of white rum, lime and grapefruit,
refreshing yet not without a kick. The whole place screams summer – let’s just
hope the weather plays ball.
