This underrated but massively attractive Italian stunner is like a little slice of Tuscany in Chicago.

This underrated but massively attractive Italian stunner is like a little slice of Tuscany in Chicago. The Enoteca Roma Ristorante’s big draw is its secret garden, popular with locals for very good reason, it’s a scenic spot yet not too fancy, prettily lit and pleasantly communal, a great place to hang out and sip a glass of crisp Italian white alongside small plates of bruschetta and salumi. The house-made pasta dishes are a good bet – try the pear and gorgonzola ravioli. The interior is simple but warm and rustic and they serve a small list of classic cocktails too, including the Lazarus, a blend of gin, sweet vermouth, and orange liqueur. There’s a top notch wine list too. But it’s the lovely patio which really lifts this above average neighbourhood Italian joint up to the next level – it’s particularly superb on summer evenings.
