Located in the heart of Cologne’s fun and frolicking Friesenviertel neighbourhood, Lotte Haifischbar (Haifischbar is German for shark bar, if you’re wondering) is a one-of-a-kind dive bar meets tiki hut meets electro dance bar. Yes, you read that right. From the street, Lotte Haifischbar gives no indication of what resides inside, with a buzzing neon red sign running longways down the side of a fairly anonymous building being your first impression of the bar. Once through the doors though, your senses are assaulted – in a good way, of course – by spotlights, endless illuminated shelves of liquor bottles, and the obligatory stuffed fish on the wall. The cocktail list at Lotte Haifischbar is a veritable who’s who of the tiki world, whisking you away to the South Seas with each sip out of the whimsical tropical glassware you take. Lotte Haifischbar’s mixes many original cocktails too, and they are creative to say the least, with the Capt’n Chaos and the Shark Attack being two fun and punchy examples. In an unexpected yet welcome twist, their whisky selection is also heralded as one of the largest and highest quality anywhere in the city. The bar is a late night hangout for some of Cologne’s hippest, and as the hours get later the electronic dance beats increase in volume and frequency, all spun by some of the best DJs in town.
