Piano Bar at Excelsior Hotel Ernst
May 11, 2018
In the heart of the busy city center – just a stone’s throw from both the bustling Hauptbahnhof and world famous tourist draw Cologne Cathedral – the Piano Bar at Excelsior Hotel Ernst is an opulent retreat home to both the relaxing sounds of the piano and some of the finest cocktails in Cologne – or Europe for that matter. The Excelsior Hotel has been family-run since the mid 1800s, and the attention to detail that has made the hotel so well known around Europe shine through in the first impressions of Piano Bar. Dark mahogany woods, leather seats, and tuxedo-wearing staff greet you and immediately confirm that this will not be your ordinary cocktail experience. Overseen by the same master bartender for two decades, the nearly fifty-page menu at Piano Bar reads like a historic register of the best cocktails ever concocted combined with signature shakes and exotic dalliances. House specials at the Piano Bar include an extensive list of ‘Champagners’ and drinks like the Dandy Boy – tequila, exotic fruit liqueur, guava purée, guava lime juice, and passion fruit nectar. As you would imagine, the Piano Bar is a romantic spot for couples, as the ivories are played from 6:30 PM to 1:00 AM every evening, and we can think of no better way to spend few hours on the Rhine.
