In the heart of Kinsale’s colorful town center, you will find The Folk House, a historic Irish pub that dates all the way back to the year 1745. The Folk House has certainly changed over the centuries, but no matter its incarnation, it has always been a gathering place for the town, and now more than ever, is the best place to go in Kinsale for a drink, live music, or just a bit of craic. First impressions at The Folk House are always friendly, as there is almost always a roaring fireplace crackling, and upon entry, you are enveloped by its warmth and all manner of brick and woods, in addition to a smiling staff. In addition, and in keeping with the town’s rich seafaring history, you’ll even spot both Spanish and Irish nautical themes on display in the bar. The Folk House has the largest selection of beer on draught and in bottles in Kinsale, and is proud of the fact that everything from Australian lager to German Wheat Beer and tequila-tinged beer from Mexico is served over the historic bar. In fact, if you count it up, you will find over two hundred types of ale, cider, stout, whiskey, rum, vodka, scotch, gin and every bottle in between being poured. The cozy and well-stocked bar is only half the appeal of The Folk House though, as an unparalleled lineup of live music takes to the stage each week, keeping both locals and tourists entertained and rocking well into the wee hours.
