Karl May Bar
May 11, 2018
Inspired by the famous Oak Room in New York, the attractive Karl May Bar – named for the popular German writer of stories set in the Orient and the Old West – at the Hotel Taschenbergpalais Kempinski in Dresden exudes a classic vibe. It’s a handsome space, furnished with dark wood panels, fine oak and claret-red leather booth seating. There’s something of the gentlemen’s club to the décor, a dash of the Don Drapers, masculine yet elegant, with colourful wall art enlivening what might otherwise be a sombre space. There’s a great selection of drinks on offer too, a range of excellent cocktails and a decent array of wines alongside a range of almost 100 kinds of whisky. It’s just the place to curl up on a cold night with a dram or two before heading out to explore what the city has to offer. Grab a stool by the bar and watch the talented bar tenders work their magic. There’s occasional live jazz and the bar offers some excellent happy discounts on its cocktails if you arrive before 8pm. If you’re hungry they offer a range of tapas-style snacks too.
