Located in the heart of Dubai Marina, Barasti benefits from a superb beach-front location. The bar started out as a humble beach shack but over the past decade or so has become a Dubai institution and one of the busiest spots in town. Laid-back, welcoming and sun-soaked, the reasons for this bar’s popularity are not rocket science. Even with a recent refit almost doubling the place in size, it still gets packed out with a cool, casual crowd most nights of the week, with people enjoying the multiple pleasures of decent drinks, shisha pipes and sea views.
Long term regulars can usually be found on the more relaxed ground floor, bopping in a chilled-out kind of way to the in-house band. Meanwhile newer converts are likely to head downstairs where they’ll find chic white decor, DJs, a dancefloor and, of course, the beach. As befits it beachy vibe, Barasti does a nice line in fruity cocktails, with signature tipples including the Mangolee – Finlandia mango, green melon and peach liqueur finished with mango and pineapple juice – and the Vodkalade mandarin vodka shaken with marmalade jam, fresh orange juice, sugar syrup and lime juice.
The food’s pretty good too, with a crowd-pleasing range of tapas, burgers, pizzas and some tasty meat and fish on the grill. A generous happy hour runs from 5pm to 2am on Mondays, with a forty per cent discount on drinks, while the bubbly flows freely on Tuesdays for ladies’ night. In short, Barasti is a place that’s geared towards having a good time and whether you come dressed up or in flip flops you’ll find a warm welcome here.
