There is an abundance of cutesy candy pink at this attractive, upscale rooftop bar on the fourth floor of the Shangri-La Hotel. Palms and billowing white fabric add to the mood of Arabian nights spliced with LA glitz and more than a little splash of Miami Beach bling, all bathed in an ultraviolet glow for that rose-tinted effect. Open from October to March, the place is full of pretty people no doubt attracted by the bar’s name who cluster around the hotel’s pool deck with their cocktails, tapping their feet nonchalantly to mellow music and discreetly checking their groomed and glossy reflections in the water. That’s when they’re not checking out the view, which is pretty awesome too, with the Burj Hotel dominating. Signature cocktails include the showy Superstar vanilla infused Russian Standard vodka, fresh grapes, sugar syrup, apple juice and Taittinger champagne and the slightly more restrained Balsamic Martinez Hendrick’s gin, Cinzano Rosso vermouth, Galliano Balsamico liqueur and Maraschino liqueur. And, of course, there’s plenty of champagne on the menu too. It doesn’t come cheap, but when you look as good as the people who hang out here you don’t have to worry about little things like the bill. Mezze style bar nibbles are also served, or you can go the whole hog with mixed grills from the barbecue, kebabs, beef burger sliders and pizzas. And if it all that style and attitude crammed into one place gets a bit much you can always chill out with a shisha pipe.
