Oeno is a gloriously sophisticated space and one of the best wine bars in Dubai. Based at the Westin, it has a theatrical glamour in its design: there are great expanses of dark wood, dramatic art on the wall, and the high, narrow space is divided into two levels connected by an impressive sweeping staircase made of glass and stainless steel. And, of course, there’s the wine. Bottles and bottles and bottles of the stuff all bathed in light a whole wine wall in fact. On one side of the bar there’s a glassed-in anteroom dedicated to wine tasting. And as if this wasn’t enough, the bar also boasts it’s very own cold room displaying a mouth-watering array of cheeses to sample. Oh, and there’s an extremely classy selection of liquors and hand rolled cigars too. In short, it’s the kind of place you may find very difficult to leave. The staff are well informed and will happily guide you around the somewhat daunting selection, as well as offering advice on matching the cheese and wine. Meanwhile a terrace offers views over the hotel’s gardens and out to the sea and is the perfect place to wrap up an evening with a glass or two of a superior Chenin or, maybe, a rich and complex Burgundy. The live house band plays five nights a week, with inspiration drawn from the worlds of jazz, funk, Latin, soul and RnB. A place to linger and savour the finer things life has to offer.
