A swish, minimalist wine bar that looks like something out of that Tokyo hotel in Lost in Translation. Part of the magnificent Emirates Towers Hotel complex, it’s a cool, dark space of muted tones, with shiny wood floors, velvet fabrics, high cocktail tables and Oriental-style blinds on the windows. As popular with the suited and booted business set as it is with affluent young couples, you might find yourself hanging around for a table, but rest assured it’s worth the wait. Smiling wait staff behind the long wood bar counter are always ready for a cross-cultural chat and the small food menu lists a selection of light cheese and pate snacks – although no sushi. You come here for the drinks though – the Agency has one of the most comprehensive wine cellars in the city and its selection of more than 500 wines will quickly have your partner purring with approval. If you’ve brought a friend or business associate, it may well have the same effect on them. Knowledgeable sommeliers are on hand to advise if all that choice is a little overwhelming, and order a bottle of wine on Friday and Saturday nights and you’ll get another on the house. This is the perfect spot for a calm and quiet drink after a day in the boardroom, or a long day shopping. And if a glass or two finds you suitably revived, you can always head on to the upper floors where more lavish dinners, drinks and dancing await.
