For yet another example of Dublin’s innovative new use of old space and design – head to Market Bar in the old Gothic style red-brick Arcade on George Street. A veritable warehouse of a space with vast ceilings and doors, you enter past a cosy beer garden where regulars are sipping pints of beer under tall heaters. Inside it’s split into two levels, with a large front area and bar looked down on by a second smaller raised level, behind it. Plants are dotted all over and clean-lined garden tables and chairs are set about a large central seating area in the middle of the whole space. With its high ceilings and imposing look there’s something of a cathedral about it, which is accentuated when the music is turned off and the banter of the after-work regulars becomes the soundtrack. Wait staff serve food in a seated restaurant area at the back, and tapas for the extra-peckish later on. Let’s all go to Market!
