The Liquor Rooms

This attractive, velvety den of liquid pleasure, located underneath the Clarence hotel, is an opulent space, part boudoir, part speakeasy. Composed of a warren of stylish rooms, the first draped with fabric giving it a tent-like feel, while other spaces are even more visually dramatic. Venture deeper inside and you’ll find a larger room with a DJ booth and space for dancing. The Art Deco inspired Mayflower Room, with its pressed tin ceiling, is also rather lovely and the venue as a whole gives off a romantic air, full of comfortable nooks in which to linger with a drink, the light flattering, and the mood embracive. Classic cocktails are impeccably executed, with real care and attention to detail, a Martini served with the requisite chill, a Clover Club feather-light yet flavour-packed, and their house creations are similarly well done. Try the potent So So Sour, an interesting blend of whisky and red wine, or the elegant Fraise Sauvage, a delicate mixture of gin and Chambord, topped up with prosecco and a scattering of dried rose buds. The bar food is a cut above too: generous platters of antipasti, well-sourced cheeses, epic bowls of crispy chicken wings and garlic prawns. Delicious and perfect when paired with one of their crisp cocktails. The crowd are well dressed and stylish, the vibe chic in the best possible way.
