Tir Na Nog

There can be few cities on earth that don’t now boast an Irish pub or two. They are everywhere, from Boston to Belgrade, but only a handful escape from that sense of manufactured, faux-Irish cheer that can blight their breed. Dusseldorf’s Tir Na Nog is one of the lucky few, a genuinely welcoming pub, a great place to hang out with friends and sip a whisky or ponder life’s greater mysteries over a pint of the black stuff. With walls adorned with bank notes and old Polaroids, this lively, friendly venue won’t win any awards in the style stakes, but it has atmosphere to spare. Sometimes you just need to embrace the cliché.
