Much like the eclectic selection of boutique stores that flank it along Rose Street, Element bar offers something for everyone. The drinks menu is crammed with local beers, wines, whiskies and freshly-muddled cocktails, both classic and contemporary, all vying for the top spot on what can at first appear a rather overwhelming menu. But delve a little deeper and you will find that the creators of this list of libations really know what they’re doing. Of particular note is the whisky selection; a collection of some of the finest Scottish malts from across the country, including everything from an 18-year-old Highland Park to a more baby-faced Macallan Gold. When it comes to cocktails, one of Element’s most popular orders is the Edinburgh Rhubarb Rocks, concocted with two gins made in the capital city (one spiced with rhubarb and ginger), rhubarb jam, mint and prosecco, while the Mexican Triple claims to contain three of your five a day in the form of lime, pineapple and orange shaken with tequila. Who’s going to argue with those kind of facts? Element serve an impressive brunch menu at the weekends, spanning everything from American-style pancake stacks to full Scottish breakfasts and stuffed Mediterranean bloomers. Dinner (served daily) is a much heartier affair, filled with fresh fish and impressive cuts of meat, but ultimately it’s the elegant cocktail-bar-cum-cozy-pub vibe and the central location that will keep you coming back.
