The lounge bar at Hamburg’s East reputedly has one of the most extensive cocktail lists in the city. So it may take you several visits to appreciate all it has to offer. Not that that’s a chore, this is a superbly stylish spot, part of a glam hotel-restaurant complex, housed in an architecturally striking converted iron foundry. Inside things pack an equally strong visual punch. Designed by Chicago-based Jordan Mozer, the interior is very futuristic with smooth sweeping curves contrasting with the hard lines of brick and glass. In Yakshi’s, the main bar area, a cosmopolitan crowd perch on the unique, sculptural seating. Food and drink is Asian in influence, and from the thick cocktail menu we were taken with the Frozen Frog, a combination of Midori, Psang Abong and lime juice and the Bombay Crushed, a blend of gin and kumquats with a dash of sugar and lime.
