The perfect blend of traditional and contemporary, the Sunset Bar at the Intercontinental Hanoi Westlake boasts a scenic locale next to Hanoi’s largest lake, along with a gorgeous interior and modern set of drinks. The creators knew what they were doing when they called it the Sunset Bar, because it’s the ideal place to sip a cocktail while watching the sun go down, and maybe even spot a local fisherman reeling in his catch of the day. The bar is located within a remarkable pagoda-style building in the centre of the hotel’s wooden boardwalk, and includes a circular mosaic-tiled bar with marble pillars, striking wooden slatted ceiling and chic wicker lounge seats. There’s also an al fresco terrace, filled with yet more comfy seating and day beds.
The drinks list at Sunset Bar is surprisingly extensive, filled with cocktails and premium spirits. Signature cocktails from the bar team include the Pomelo Fizz (gin, orange liqueur and pomelo juice) and the Vietnamese take on a mojito: the Hanoi Breeze (dark and white rum, lemongrass, fresh mint and soda). There’s also plenty of classic concoctions, including six different types of martini, and an impressive range of mocktails (we particularly like the iced tea made with Earl Grey, orange juice and syrup) for the non-drinkers. Add to that a lengthy international wine list and some mouthwatering bar snacks, and you may find you want to stay long after the sun has actually set.
