La Bodeguita del Medio
May 11, 2018
Ernest Hemingway is forever linked with Havana‘s La Bodeguita del Medio. The man may have put in drinking hours in many bars in many cities, but famously when in Cuba he drank his mojito in La Bodeguita and a daiquiri in El Floridita.
The bar has been around since 1942 and is decorated in typically cluttered Cuban fashion with photos filling the walls and trinkets scattered throughout the place. Over the years it has been visited by numerous artists, films stars and literary types, including Pablo Neruda, Nat King Cole and Marlene Dietrich, and their signatures also cover the walls.
These days it is a favourite of the tourists, though locals can still be found drinking there and it still manages to retain a good degree of its character even if it does get crowded. Though other cocktails are available, the mojito, of course, really should be the first drink you order. The food is also pretty decent, the menu full of traditional Cuban dishes.
