In recent years, the Croatian island of Hvar has seen its reputation as an Adriatic ‘glamour isle’ go global, with A-listers, VIPs, and ‘see-and-be seen-ers’ flocking to its shores. Long before the word got out (way back in 1977 to be exact), a classic Croatian cafe and bar opened up on the Hvar harbor called Sidro, and we’re happy to report it’s as fantastic now as it was back then.
Founded by a beloved husband and wife team, Sidro is set in one of Hvar’s signature sun-faded facades a stone’s throw from the water, directly across from the petite Pakleni islands that neighbor the island. You really couldn’t ask for a better view from their terrace, with both yachts and local fishing vessels bobbing up-and-down before you, and before long, a delicious beverage on your table.
During the day, Sidro is the spot for revitalizing smoothies and coffee (the island’s finest cup according to many), but as the sun sets, cocktails become the focal point for the overflow crowds, as the bar has gained an esteemed reputation for its tropical-tinged lime cocktails. Their mojito is legendary, and we don’t think you can say that you’ve truly been to Hvar until you’ve had one. No, don’t be surprised at all if Sidro becomes your home-away-from-home on Hvar.
