It would be hard to get the blues in a place as stylish this. A few steps into the Four Seasons hotel’s harbour side oasis of comfort and money, Blue Bar provides an indigo-hued space where expense account guests and a chic clientèle come to take the edge off a heavy day of deal making. Under a soothing blue glow mixologists work the long, dark bar like a well-oiled machine – among the bartenders’ choices, the Smoked Bark is hard to beat with a peaty whisky mixed with chocolate bitters and homemade cinnamon beer syrup. Those lucky enough to get a comfy seat next to the floor-to-ceiling windows (reservations can be made) may sip their crafted cocktail of choice with a harbour view (although the foreground is somewhat blighted by a tangle of roads, walkways and the building of the Central to Wan Chai bypass). That frenetic scene is a world away from the relaxed, sophisticated atmosphere inside with the gorgeous coloured glass column a centre-piece that makes the interior almost more inviting than the views. Happy hours are a Hong Kong institution and even in a place as classy as the Four Seasons you’ll find one – from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. For the peckish that’s an added bonus as the bar offers a complimentary buffet of hors d’oeuvres and bar snacks.
