Club @ 28

Unless you’re staying here, you might not think of this as a destination bar. But at 28 stories high and on the edge of Happy Valley, you won’t find a better bar in the city with a view towards the fabled race track. The only downside is that the floor to ceiling view of the horses galloping over the mile-long track isn’t on the balcony side of the bar. That’s fine on sticky summer evenings when air-con becomes a blessing, but at other times the bijou balcony next to the Crown Plaza’s rooftop pool is the best spot. It’s free of decoration, save for a fine view overlooking the bright lights of Causeway Bay (and perhaps a hotel guest of two in their cossie). Cocktails cover classics, like a Caipirinha and Mojito, and its only the slightly embarrassing copywriting on the menu (“drinks for cool people”) that leave a slightly sour taste. Like most rooftop bars, it’s best viewed at night, when the decor also seems better placed. The circular bar dotted with illuminated bottles, indigo chandeliers and slightly spacey blue-lit runway dividing the tables on the main bar were obviously selected with by the Crown Plaza’s interior designers with moonlight in mind.
