Half-inside, half out, Le Jardin has been making the most of its hidden away space at the back of Lan Kwai Fong for years, if not decades. True to its name, its terrace-like setup it is open-sided and very rareky shuttered — is full of greenery. It’s down a small alley at the top of D’Aguilar Rd, that infamous collection of Lan Kwai Fong bars,, and although out of sight from the main strip it carries on the party regardless. Reliably unpretentious, it packs in a lively crowd of a weekend. Drinks are cheap and cheerful, slung (sometimes literally) as the bar staff work at full capacity. The special here is a ‘dr pepper,’ a shot of amaretto dunked into a glass of beer and coke, and downed. It’s that kind of place. The jukebox — the sole source of music — hasn’t been updated since maybe even the beginning, and may be the sole remaining copy of the Spin Doctors’ seminal hit, ‘Two Princes’, making for an interesting trip down memory lane as you slam another beer-and-amaretto cocktail.
