Headed by acclaimed industry veteran Sandeep Hathiramani and star Hong Kong bartender Gagan Gurung, Tell Camellia is a singular cocktail bar that takes mixology to new heights. Named after Camellia sinensis, the bush plant of tea, the bar uses modern techniques and cutting-edge equipment to create unique drinks highlighting the flavors of the world’s finest teas.
The cocktail menu is a journey in itself. Based on select blends sourced from around the world (Kenya, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Taiwan…) mixed with local spices, spirits and ingredients from each region, the signature Teatails are vibrant, sophisticated creations. Kenya, for instance, combines Kenyan Marinyn tea and homemade banana wine with sweet potato, cornflakes, aged rum and a touch of honey. Japan is made with matcha tea and shochu mixed with pumpkin seed, fermented soybean and mint, sprinkled with seaweed and rare plankton, and served in a traditional Japanese wooden cup… that levitates. Sri Lanka mixes Ceylon tea with coconut, basmati rice, Ape Amma wine and rye whisky, and comes decorated with an edible coral tuile. And for the tea lover who loves a gin and tonic, the T&Tonic section of the menu offers surprising renditions of the classic using house gins redistilled with different teas. But our favorite has to be the Lillet-based and utterly refreshing T-Tonic, with Lillet blanc, rosemary and green tea cordial, and tonic water.
As for the interior, it has been carefully designed to complement the experience. Contemporary with a distinctive Japanese touch, the deep green walls, light wooden beams and subdued lighting give this intimate bar a warm and relaxing atmosphere, perfect for date night.
