If one had to pick one particular bar to represent the Wyndham strip, it may very well be Tivo. Often the first stop on the way out, or equally the last stop back in, Wyndham Street bars often pour out onto the street, intermingling. Tivo, a sizeable space slap-bang in the middle of the street, is no exception.
Blaring 1990’s hip hop (sample: Hip Hop Hooray)as a means to entice drinkers into its dimly-lit space, Tivo doesn’t aim for subtlety, but then that’s hardly the aim of the game. It has an energy to it, sure, which is why drinks go down quickly, and are replaced. It’s a great after-work, pre-game beer place.
It’s blunt-force approach hasn’t dented its popularity, however, as a high-energy, reasonably-priced pit stop. Cocktails, especially during happy hour, are priced accordingly. The “Oriental Passion,” a signature creation, mixes fresh lemongrass, coriander, ginger, passion fruit (both in juice and liqueur iterations), vodka and fresh lime. It ends up being a little on the sugary side, but more than the sum of its considerable parts. And in that, perhaps it serves as a metaphor for the bar as a whole. A handful, no doubt, but somewhat refreshing as you sit overlooking the street, people-watching.
