One of the city’s best brunch spots, Zuma also cuts no corners when it comes to innovative cocktails using the best spirits Japan has to offer with a real zeal. That includes award-winning whiskies and of course sake from across the country. From the central bar that acts as the main hub of the modern izakaya lounge area, mixologists often refresh the drinks list with new additions, like the Majipan, an elaborate number made with Nikka whiskey, gold marzipan, egg white and lemon juice, topped with a cotton flower. A full blown botanitcal experience can be had with the Nakuta a blend of coconut rum, yuzu and mango juice that is served in no less than a real Venus Vase plant. Away from the splendid concotions, bar staff will happily recommend the right sake for you or to pair with the superior bar bites, from seared beef and chicken skewers, to popcorn tempura and well-prepared sashimi and sushi. The restaurant below, accessed via the sweeping spiral staircase, is more family friendly, but generally the bar brings in the well-dressed after-work crowd, daters and diners who want to keep the night going. DJ nights keep the energy levels as high as the alcohol content in some of the cocktails.
