Grungy, wild and fun, The Pontiac is the most exciting late-night spot in Hong Kong’s Central district.

In a high-end bar scene such as Hong Kong’s, who would have thought an American-style dive bar with major Coyote Ugly vibes would be so successful, enough to make it to No.32 on the 2019 World’s 50 Best Bars list? Helmed by Beckaly Franks, star mixologist and former lead bartender at Portland’s Clyde Common, The Pontiac’s loud music, rough aesthetic and authentic vibe have turned it into the coolest neighborhood spot for stiff cocktails and a seriously good time.

Behind a raw brick and graffiti facade, the narrow and industrial-looking space seems straight out of a nineties movie, with its concrete floors, neon signs, and polaroids lining the walls. The lively atmosphere immediately draws you in. This is the place to go if you want to let off steam, meet new people, and sing at the top of your lungs as the jukebox blasts your favorite rock anthems. Elbow your way to the bar and you’ll see Franks and her almost all-female staff happily turning out cocktail after cocktail for the thirsty crowd. Strong and delicious, the bar’s signature drinks combine the best ingredients with a hefty dose of creativity. Try the Hobnail, made with Irish whisky, ginger, amaro, Angostura bitters and orange oil, or Too Many Devils, with dry gin, raspberry eau de vie, falernum no. 2, melon, lime, cucumber and absinthe. If classics are more your thing, these are also perfectly executed, with a special mention for the Old Fashioned.

Come by for the daily Ponty Hour after work, from 5PM to 8PM, or pop by after dinner for an exciting late night drink. Make sure you don’t miss the midnight special, where the staff cranks up the music, stands up on the bar, and pours shots directly from the bottle straight into customers’ mouths. Yes, this place takes fun very seriously.
