Anvil Bar and Refuge
Houston-City-Center
May 11, 2018
Anvil shifted Houston’s cocktail culture up a gear. Every drink is a carefully hand-crafted delight made with the best quality ingredients. Prohibition era cocktails are the order of the day and, in keeping with this ethos, the bar has a pleasantly low-key, unflashy vibe. It’s not one to shout; it just keeps its head down and does what it does best. Housed in a former 1950s tire shop, Anvil has rough, bare-brick walls, a mini-library of well-thumbed cocktail recipe books, vintage glassware and a long bar (complete with salvaged footrail) where punters can perch and watch the bar tenders go about their business. Beer lovers are also well served, as the bar stocks a range of craft brews and Belgian imports.
