This cool Huston agave bar, from Bobby Heugel and Alba Huerta, the team behind Anvil, offers its customers a range of 17 different Mexican beers – any of which can be made into a Michelada for an extra $2 as well as a huge array of tequila and mezcal, the smoky sister of tequila. Margaritas are available in shaken or frozen form with flavours including balsamic and jabenero as well as the ubiquitous strawberry. The Overproof Margarita is a thing of beauty and they a small range of other agave-based cocktails. The spirits list is huge and comprehensive, featuring agave in all its forms, including an array of small batch spirits (they’re just as fussy about what they don’t sell you won’t find flavoured tequila here, novelty scorpion-spiked booze or a number of mainstream brands; whether you find this admirable or arrogant is another matter). What’s clear is that they’re passionate about agave and that passion translates to the drinks and the whole experience. The bar itself is a vibrant and colourful space with a cool outside-inside vibe. Sprigged with greenery, it’s an attractive venue, with a gorgeous azure frontage, bright murals on the walls, an array of booth seating and a warm welcoming atmosphere
