A naartjie, for those who don’t know, is a tasty South African tangerine. Head to this bar in Orange Grove suburb though and you’re more likely to be tasting fruity cocktails than simple fruit. Set in a pretty tree-lined street, the lively vibe in summer goes on until day break when the toughest “Joburg jollers” are still on the go. The interior has eccentric wall decorations and comfy furniture and your friendly fellow boozers are a mix of hard living hipsters and in-the-know tourists. With a drinks selection wide enough to suit all tastes why not take a beer, a brandy or a bourbon up to the top floor balcony and decide whether you want to stay until dawn.
