The format’s getting over-familiar now but for sheer style it’s still hard to beat the Buddha Bar. There are several BBs dotted around the globe, all of them echoing the Paris original on décor and atmosphere. The Kyiv outpost is no exception. Step away from the hum and bustle of Kreschatyk and enter an opulent, eastern influenced wonderland. Ascend the stairs to the main bar area where you’ll find the giant Buddha beaming down on you in a huge, high-ceilinged room. There are ornate chandeliers aplenty and chairs upholstered in fine Egyptian fabrics; the lighting is kept seductively low though, to the point where you may have to squint to make out the drinks list. The pan-Asian fusion food is impeccably presented and as the night wears on the place becomes more lounge-like with chilled house beats filling the air.
