7 Greek Street Social

Very rarely does making a call from a public telephone booth lead to drinking delicious cocktails and having an enjoyable night with friends. But that is exactly how you must gain entry to 7 Greek Street Social – Leeds’ worst kept secret when it comes to great nightlife spots. Located in the basement of another Leeds establishment (The Liquorist), 7 Greek Street Social classes itself as a “secret bar”, meaning that they don’t advertise their whereabouts openly and require customers to call a specific number on the aforementioned phone booth to gain entry from the doorman. Once inside, the conspiratorial theme is continued, with a Hollywood-style sign spelling the word “SHHH” on the back wall and an altogether mysterious ambiance and dark decor. The long bar at 7 Greek Street Social is well-stocked with spirits of all types, used to concoct a range of unique – and often fruity – cocktails. The Yorkshire Punch is a favourite, made by combining vodka, ginger beer, passionfuit liqueur, mango puree, vanilla syrup, pineapple, orange and lime. But there are also a range of contemporary classics – take the Violet and Rose Martini and the Salt and Caramel Old Fashioned as perfect examples. And if you’re popping in after dinner, the creamy and decadent After Eight (a nutty coffee cream cocktail) and the Cafe Complexion (flavours of cocoa and vanilla vodka) are perfect nightcaps. It isn’t just cocktails sold at this underground hideaway, though, as you can also get your hands on a good range of craft beers and lagers and a decent wine list, all of which can be enjoyed while listening to the bar’s regular lineup of resident DJs.
