The Botanist Leeds
May 11, 2018
As has come to be expected from The Botanist brand of bars, the Leeds locale is an extraordinary feat of interior design and cocktail magistery. Located inside a funky shopping and dining venue, The Botanist has brought its own brand of style to the city; namely, the industrial-cum-country-garden decor replete with mismatched picture frames, dripping chandeliers, chunky wooden tables and stripped-wood trestle tables. There’s also the odd old-fashioned “pub” touch thrown in for good measure (the leather-topped bar stools and upright piano) which remind you that the place is also a gastropub at its heart.
We don’t even know where to start when talking about the cocktail list. There are long ones, short ones, classic ones, and a whole section dedicated to martinis. A few of the sandout creations are the Thai Chilli Crush (red chilli, Thai basil, apple and lemon juice, gin and green apple liqueur), the Orange and Sage Sidecar (orange and lemon juice, fresh sage leaves, homemade sage gomme and brandy) and the Strawberry and Cucumber Breeze (strawberry puree, mint, cucumber, vanilla syrup, gin, strawberry liqueur, topped up with apple, cranberry and lemon juice). If you’re in a group, the sharing cocktails served out of a watering can are a fun way to kick off the evening and, this being The Botanist, even the flight boards are slightly eccentric – a mini cocktail topped up with beer, served with the can and tasting notes. There’s an exciting gin list for G&T lovers, as well as some delicious mocktails that certainly hit the spot on a sunny day.
