Camp and Furnace is a hard place to pin down. There’s a lot going on under this one roof. It’s a restaurant of sorts, but it’s also a late bar plenty of ‘pop-ups and food slams’ are promised, there are art installations and live music, exhibitions and performances, comedy and sport. Housed in a huge converted factory space on Greenland Street, near Liverpool’s revitalised docks, it’s a sprawling multi-purpose space. There’s some excellent stuff coming out of that kitchen we hear all manner of good things about their chorizo burger, they do a cracking steak, and Jay Rayner recently gave the place his seal of approval – and the drinks are equally tantalising, including a range of aperitifs and bellinis, which you build yourself. The energy of the place is the real draw here though, that and the constantly changing menu of events, from their Saturday Meatmarket a kind of weekly dinner and disco party – to their Sunday DJ sessions. Despite the sheer size of the space it remains warm and convivial in atmosphere, the courtyard coming into its own when the sun shines.
