While Ljubljana might still fly under the radar when it comes to European travel destinations, those in the know have been flocking here for years to revel in its laid-back and romantic riverside charm. And the wine lovers among them have been making a beeline lately for Dvorni Bar, as it is known far and wide as the finest place to sip wine inside this Slovenian city.
A perennial award-winner for its selection, Dvorni impresses you with its design aesthetic long before it has the chance to with its bottles. It’s mostly a modern, streamlined space full of reds, blacks, and slick floor tiles speckled with effects in the front of the venue, but we love the way they’ve created a rustic ‘wine cavern’ feel in the rear of the bar the most. This space includes a room full of old wine barrels and murals of fanciful folks imbibing. When it comes time for the wine, since they’ve created a list that shines light on some of the finest wines produced in Slovenia, you get the surreal experience of exploring the country’s wine-producing regions without leaving your seat, and this is to say nothing of their gourmet kitchen that cranks out dishes with plenty of panache.
