Archer Street Cocktail Bar
May 11, 2018
Though you might not guess it from the outside, this chic bar on Soho’s Archer Street is surprisingly airy and elegant. It’s something of an oasis in this part of town, with its panelled walls, French windows and abundance of inviting sofas; it has a sophisticated club-like quality and the cocktail list is full of intriguing concoctions, drinks like the punchy Pink Pigeon, a mix of vanilla spiced rum shaken with apricot liqueur, pink grapefruit juice, a touch of honey and fresh lime.
Juxtaposed with this refined upstairs space is their basement sort-of pop-up Piste, an Alpine inspired nightclub, with rustic wood walls and the air of an Austrian ski chalet. The space has been decked out with reindeer skins, antique skis and snowshoes, as well a bunch of stripy sofas and cushions on which one can linger with a drink.
The atmosphere is meant to recreate the energy and atmosphere of aprßs ski in the middle of drizzly London and it kind of works. There’s even a dressing up box so you can really get into the spirit of things. Order one of their lightly spiced Apricot and Cinnamon Bellinis as a restorative and pretend you’ve just come in from a long day on the slopes.
