Baranis brings an air of Provence to the City. Owned by the people behind the similarly Provencal restaurant Cigalon, the bar is deliciously French in atmosphere ß-it even boasts the only indoor petanque court in the UK. The space is simply but attractively designed with the bare brick walls set off by some bold yellow pillars. The food and drink continue the Provencal theme; the menu features regional dishes as well as solid array of cheeses and charcuterie and the drinks list contains a number of exciting cocktails, including a rose mojito, as well as more traditional French aperitifs. The wine list, it goes without saying, is intriguing and well put together. Prices are pleasingly reasonable for this part of town.
