A Covent Garden fixture since the 1980s, Café Pacifico continues to serve a winning mix of well- made margaritas and better than average Mexican food to a satisfied crowd. London may have more Mexican food options than it once did with Thomasina Myers’ Wahaca chain leading the way but this place remains popular with good reason. The cantina vibe is casual but fun, the former banana warehouse exuding a rustic colourful charm. The food is decent rather than spectacular belly-filling but a bit old-school, all the usual suspects, however this place is far more about the atmosphere and the drinks. There’s a great range of tequila based cocktails to enjoy, with many served both by the glass or by the pitcher. The house Margarita is unchy but refreshing and there are various fruit versions on offer alongside some more inventive agave based drinks like the Chambord-laced Fulanita’s Cherry and the zingy Buenos Dias Martini with ginger and a dash of marmalade, a Mexican twist on the classic Breakfast Martini. The smoky Mezca-rita is another welcome twist on a favourite, while the Ochos Negritos is for those who like their drinks clean and crisp and potent. They also serve a large range of Mojitos and other rum-based drinks as well as a ripe, fruity house Sangria. Visit with a gang of friends and make a night of it.
