46 & MERCY
London-City and East London
May 11, 2018
Housed in a former Commercial Street gallery space, under Hot Box, 46 and Mercy serves a list of eleven creative house cocktails including the Blessed Thistle, which mixes vodka with wine washed in pork fat and thyme (this is an increasingly common thing, fat-washing, it adds a note of savoury complexity to drinks), the Stormy Monday, a blend of Havana Club 3 Year Old rum with the homemade ginger beer, fig liqueur and lime. There’s also the Rye Me To The Moon, a drink that pits rye whiskey with amontillado sherry, bay leaf syrup and bitters. The space is contemporary and pared down, with a slightly raw-edged urban aesthetic, with trestle tables and benches alongside bright red columns and a brightly polished bar. There is a scattering of more comfortable chairs available, best to snag one of these if you’re planning on making a night of it.
