Andina is the new Shoreditch operation from restaurateur Martin Morales, the man behind the popular Ceviche in Soho. This place is rather different in atmosphere and intention. Continuing the Peruvian theme, the venue is stylish and modern, yet inspired in part by inspired by the ‘picanterias’ of Peru, a kind of traditional, community restaurant, often family run. The food is designed to be healthy and light. Open from breakfast, there’s an in-house Juice Bar serving fresh juices and smoothies, and quinoa features in a big way, quinoa milk even crops up in the coffee. The menu offers a Quinoa Burger alongside other traditional Andean dishes including Ceviche and Solterito, a traditional salad of broad beans, corn and queso fresco cheese. Vegetarians are very well catered for here, with over half the menu meat-free. Pisco features prominently on the drinks menu. From a small range of cocktails, we like the sound of the Redchurch Chicha, a blend of apple cider, pisco, choclo puree, light barley tea, honey, and mirin, and the Inkafe, a mix of coffee infused pisco, pomegranate infused pisco, and fresh berries. They also run monthly pisco sour master-classes if you want to learn more about the South American spirit. Be sure to save room for the Picarone: Pumpkin doughnuts with vanilla ice cream, purple corn syrup and chocolate fudge.
