The lively, exuberant, continental-style Bar Kick in Shoreditch is more spacious than its sister venue, Clerkenwell’s Café Kick. Spread over two floors, there’s a main bar at street level and one of the two rooms is stuffed with nearly a dozen table-football tables. It’s bright and light, decked out with flags and posters, and the sound of people at play adds to the pleasant background hum of the place. The drinks and snacks at both venues have something of a Spanish flavour. They serve Super Bock and Estrella beers, and there are grilled chorizo sandwiches on offer alongside tasty platters of Spanish cheeses, cured meats and olives. They do a bloody good burger and there sandwich buffet is a really good option if it’s just a snack you’re after in between games of table footie. There’s a sense that there’s always something going on and the entertainment can encompass everything from poetry readings to stand-up comedy. Live sports screenings, movie nights and speed dating also feature.
