Jamie Oliver has built himself quite a food empire. Alongside chains like Jaime’s Italian are stand-alone projects like his Fifteen restaurants, and this US-style barbecue and steak restaurant, one of the flagship eateries in the One New Change development near St Paul’s Cathedral. While initial reviews were, not to put to fine a point on it, mixed, the place has honed its game over the years and is now something of a City destination. The room is stylish, a sleek collage of metal and stone. Meaty things like baby back ribs and beef short rib are top notch. Not everything hits the same sweet spot but if you’re serious about meat and cocktails, this place is a winner. Their Negroni Frizzante is brilliant aperitif. Silly name aside, That’s One Hot Paloma, is kicky mix of smoked jalapeño tequila, grapefruit soda, and smoked sea salt. The PX Daiquiri is a complex blend of Pedro Ximenez, barrel-aged rum, lime, and cane sugar, while the Peach tini is a sweet, refreshing mix of matcha-Infused cucumber gin, peach, lychee, and lemon, summer in a glass essentially. They stock a great selection of whiskies, have a generous happy hour offer and Wednesdays are wine nights at Berbecoa with a third off a selection of bottles.
