This wonderfully warm and eclectic wine bar benefits from its location near the revamped Spitalfields Market. With sister branches near Borough and Leadenhall Markets, Bedales stands out amidst the encroaching chain cafes and restaurants around Spitalfields; it has character and atmosphere and feels welcoming, even if your knowledge of wine is rather patchy. The staff are happy to share their expertise and guide you through their ‘wine library.’ The venue doubles as shop and many people can’t help but take home a bottle or two of superior Sancerre or some little known Alsatian palate-dazzler. It’s a simple space, basically decorated, but they play to their strengths. Superbly rustic food is available to accompany your glass of vino: antipasti platters of cheeses and meats are ideal for sharing and they source their bread from the incomparable St John. They also host regular tutored tasting sessions for oenophiles in the making.
