Callooh Callay
London-City and East London
May 11, 2018
The work of Lewis Carroll and C.S Lewis has clearly influenced Callooh Callay. This is a rabbit hole of a bar, a magical hidden space stuffed with curios and a decidedly eclectic aesthetic involving palm-fronded lampshades, cherry red bar stools, Spitalfields Market art and a vast armoire. The front bar area is the perfect place to perch with a drink and look out at the streets of Shoreditch, but true cocktail fiends would be wise to investigate what lies on the other side of the wardrobe. The Jub-jub bar is a members-only space where the bar staff really get to indulge their passion for creative drinks. You don’t need a fat wallet to become a member, only an enthusiasm for the bar tender’s art. Both the staff and the drinks menu are rotated regularly so you’re always guaranteed something exciting and new, an aromatic passion fruit and lemon grass concoction one day or a perfectly executed Hemingway daiquiri.
