London-City and East London

Younger sibling to the original Caravan on Exmouth Market this buzzy space on the Granary Square development in King’s Cross, right next door to the brilliantly inventive Grain Store and the new site of Central St Martins, has a convivial, urban vibe. There’s a place to perch at the front if you just fancy a coffee and a bite – the coffee here, fruity and roasted in-house, is excellent – as well as some banquette seating at the back of the faintly industrial, concrete-heavy room for indulging in their tasty small plates – think dishes like deep-fried duck egg with baba ganoush or grits, collard greens and brown shrimp butter. We particularly love the sound of crispy fried chicken with jerk mayo and their Jalapeno cornbread with chipotle butter is to die for. Their global wine list is worth exploring and they do a small range of quality cocktails including, perhaps unsurprisingly, a Coffee Old Fashioned. Save some belly space for their inventive desserts – chocolate berry trifle, espresso jelly, and madeleines (yum). They also do a cracking brunch.
