Cigala predates the current craze for all things Iberian in the capital. It’s relaxed into itself since it opened, offering a selection of tapas and heftier Spanish dishes in a stylish, white table-clothed room (no sherry barrels and standing to eat here). The menu features impeccable jamon and salt cod fritters, squid a la plancha, and other Spanish treats. Downstairs there’s a separate bar area where they serve Spanish-style cocktails, including the refreshing Pacharan Amargo, made with Pacharan a Basque sloe berry liqueur – lemon juice, orange juice and fresh mint. The wine list is also worth exploring and is strong on the sherry. The clientele is mostly suited and professional lawyers from the nearby chambers make up a good proportion of the crowd.
