London-City and East London

Sandwiched between the many Turkish eateries of the upper Kingsland Road like falafel in pita, the Dalston Superstore is a funky, neon-lit two-level bar that stays open late. The bar has a familiar industrial feel, boasting art-peppered concrete walls, exposed pipes and strands of dangling fairy-lights. The upstairs room is more casual, intended for all-day lounging, while downstairs houses the late space, open from 10pm and better suited to whiskey-fuelled midnight meanderings or for unpicking the latest offerings at the Arcola over the road. There’s no set cocktail list but the bar tenders will whip up a decent martini if asked nicely and there’s a good array of beers and spirits too. The place exudes a low-key East End glamour, with an ever so slightly hedonistic edge and none of the tiresome excesses of nearby Shoreditch (not yet anyway). It attracts a hip young, crowd with a large gay contingent and clubbers will appreciate the eclectic range of music played by local DJs in the downstairs bar.
