This new spot by the Hawksmoor team is everything you'd expect from the people behind London's best steakhouse. On a street already blessed with an excellent array of eateries and bars Bistro Bruno Loubet and the original, influential St John the place has a classic with a handsome bar area, comfy banquettes and turquoise chairs adding a splash of colour. A blackboard lists the steaks of the day unsurprisingly meat is a big deal here and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Cocktails include the now classic Pickle Buck, a mix of rye, maple syrup, lime, pickle jar juice and ginger ale, the Sanlucar Fizz, a quaffable mixture of the Manzanilla, Poire William and Prosecco and the potent St John's Cocktail, a warming blend of gin, prune Eau de Vie, honey and lemon. Their take on the classic Bloody, the Smokestack Mary blends gin, tomato, chipotle, smoked paprika and peaty Scotch and the wines have been compiled by the good people at Sagar and Wilde. Meaty things dominate the food menu (veggies are catered for, but it's slim pickings. There are baby back Iberico rib, bacon ribs with maple and chilli, beef shortribs with kimchi even the fries are seasoned with bacon salt. And we haven't even mentioned the steaks yet. If you still have room after all that, you might want to try their one of their soft serve sundaes, which come in a variety of flavours, including bourbon caramel and peanut butter and jelly.
