London-City and East London

Russell Norman’s small chain of Venetian-style bacaros has expanded considerably of late. This is the third London branch of Polpo and his not-so-mini empire also includes Spuntino and Mishkin’s. This latest branch, just off Smithfield meat market, has the same raw, low-lit, bare-brick charm as the Beak Street original, and a similar menu (including some addictive arancini and a heavenly cured pork shoulder pizzettas), but also a dedicated Negroni bar in the basement where you can sip suitably dark, intense cocktails while munching on delectable chichetti. The usual no booking rules apply so be prepared to wait for a table at busy times.
