London-City and East London

‘Breathtaking’ is the only word to describe the view from SkyLounge on the 12th floor of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in London. With a bright outdoor terrace decked out in a New England style, the SkyLounge seemingly spies over the whole of London – or at least that’s how it feels. Encompassing the Shard, the Gherkin and Tower Bridge from its vantage point, visitors to Sky Lounge are in for a real panoramic treat as they sip on their seasonal cocktails. Inside SkyLounge you’ll find muted neutral tones, padded violet bar stools and a bar so shiny it looks as though it’s been polished and, although the interior doesn’t offer quite the unobstructed view that the exterior terrace does, it’s still the perfect spot for an after-dinner drink or nightcap. The long outside terrace is open all year, thanks mainly to sheepskin rugs and heaters, and serves up a seasonal menu of food and drinks, all of which can be enjoyed above the twinkling lights of London town. Signature cocktails include the Blood and Sand (a Prohibition-era cocktail combining whisky, cherry brandy, sweet vermouth, orange and grapefruit juices) and the tooth-achingly sweet after-dinner special, the Marshmallow Alexander (rum, cognac, amaretto, condensed milk, vanilla and marshmallows), which is almost a dessert in itself. SkyLounge’s food menu includes small plates and fun finger foods, while the early birds can feast on afternoon tea, which changes according to the season or special occasion.
