The Jugged Hare
London-City and East London
May 11, 2018
The Jugged Hare is a younger sibling of the equally chic Chiswell Street Dining Room.
It’s a handsome space, tucked just around the corner from the Barbican Centre; the place has something of the air of an urban hunting lodge there’s a lot of taxidermy on display so it should be no surprise that meat features heavily on the menu (the open kitchen boasts a state-of-the art rotisserie).
The room is divided into two: a front bar area and a larger, more atmospheric dining space. The Jugged Hare bespoke ale is definitely worth sampling and they do some moreish bar snacks their black pudding croquettes are divine and they do a superior take on that revitalised classic, the venison Scotch egg.
The wine list is pretty epic with some superb wines available by the glass including a rich, complex Italian barbera.
The crowd is a mix of City suits and those en route to the Barbican. Staff are accommodating and knowledgeable, particularly on the matter of wine.
